Students Receive Reading Awards

award

Mountain City Elementary School’s kindergarten students were surprised on Monday, April 2, when six students were recognized and presented with an Easter basket for reading the most books since October.  The baskets are donated each year by Janice Russell in memory of her sister, Anne Atkinson.  The awards were initiated to promote reading at home.  Special thanks to Ms. Russell for making these awards possible each year.

The students who checked out the most books were: Boys – Eli Fritts with 59 books; Kevin Horner with 58; and Hayden Dugger with 55.   Girls – Allison Sutherland with 58 books; Natalie Warren with 55; and Shawna Arnold with 53.  The kindergarten students did not know ahead of time that these prizes would be awarded.

The students are shown with their gifts and Mrs. Ala Sue Moretz, MCE media specialist.  Congratulations to these students for their persistence in checking out books so often and reading with their parents at home.
