Johnson County
Homework Policy

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am in full agreement with the Johnson County homework plan. Due to this plan I will not be giving homework in English. Students should expect math homework during the multiplication, division, and fraction units. In social studies students will complete projects in class, but will need to study at home prior to tests.
I have found that students who read nightly improve significantly. I feel reading homework is EXTREMELY important.
I have experimented over the last few years with different homework reading methods. I have tried homework reading logs, packets of questions on a book, book summaries, and book reports.  I have found that rewarding students who earn AR points is the best method. This takes the pressure away from parents who must determine if their child really read before they sign reading logs. It eliminates timely grading of written assignments. Students are less likely to discover ways of beating this system.
