Special Olympic Pledge

Let me win.
But if I can not win
Let me be brave
In the attempt.

 

Special Olympics begins each spring with a drawing contest. All participates draw pictures that represent what Special Olympics means to them. The winning drawing is printed on T-shirts. These shirts are worn by the athletes to the regional and local competitions.  

 

 

The regional Special Olympics is held in Johnson City at East Tennessee State University. Here Johnson Countians compete against others from upper East Tennessee. Competitions include:

  • Competitions include:

    • 10 yard wheelchair dash

    • 100 yard dash

    • 220 yard dash

    • 50 yard dash

    • mile run

    • softball throw

    • wheelchair ball throw

Winners for each competition receive first, second, or third place medals, or fourth or fifth place ribbons.      

 

During May the local competition is held in Mountain City at Ralph Stout Park. Athletes compete in races and softball throwing. Ribbons are awarded to the winners. All participates receive a trophy. Everyone goes home a winner.
