exciting art, craft, and game activities for the
students each club meeting. These activities usually center around holidays or special
events that are taking place that week.
 |
In November the students studied Colonial America.
They enjoyed playing colonial games, and they even made a toy from that time period.
A highlight was a tasting party, with grits, hominy, turnips, dried apples, but the
favorite was Johnny cakes. |
Making wooden reindeer was a fun December project.
In January the club built snowmen as part of a Winter Wonderland project and enjoyed the
story The Mitten. They laced a mitten and selected the bear character from the
story and did an iron-on transfer on t-shirts.
| During February students completed activities for
Valentine's Day. Students enjoyed a celebration of Dr. Seuss' books for Read Across
America Day in March, and learned the history of St. Patrick's Day, followed by making a
shamrock dog. |

Once each month the Discovery Club
goes on a field trip. Students delivered can goods to the Mountain City Neighborhood
Service Center, saw the Pokémon movie, visited Rocky Mount, went bowling, and
played at Fun Adventure.
The next trip planned is a visit to the 911 Center
and the Rescue Squad.
Easter activities are planned for April and the
year will end with a fun filled trip. |
