1871  The Great Chicago Fire

1889  The Johnstown Flood  -   1889
1900 Hurricane in Galveston, Texas   -  On September 8, 1900
1903  A fire at the Iroquois Theater in Chicago took 588 lives.
1904   1,055 people died when a fire swept through the steamship General Slocum in New York.
1904   2,600 buildings over 80 blocks of Baltimore were destroyed by fire.
1905   3,000 people were stricken and 400 died from a yellow fever outbreak in New Orleans, traced to mosquitoes.
1906  The San Francisco Earthquake
1907  Coal mine explosions in Monongahela, West Virginia and Jacobs Creek, Pennsylvania killed a total of 601 workers.
1909  259 coal miners died in an explosion at Cherry, Illinois.
1911  The Triangle Shirt Waist Fire kills 145 immigrant women. Modern fire regulations are established.
1912  The Titanic  -  1912 1,500 perished when the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank during its maiden voyage.
1913  Over 400 died in The Dayton Flood along the Miami River in Ohio.
1915  A German sub sank the U.K.'s passenger ship The Lusitania, killing 1,198 persons, including 114 Americans and 64 babies
