whiteout -  a weather condition in which loose or falling snow is blown into an intense blizzard, blocking vision and preventing movement

precipitation  - all forms of water depositied on the earth from the atmosphere. They include rain, snow, frost, hail, dew, etc.







flood plain - strip of relatively flat and normally dry land alongside a stream, river, or lake that is covered by water during a flood.  -   flat area on either side of a river which is under water during a flood

 




waterlogged - saturated with water. (The land was so waterlogged by heavy rain, the soil could no longer absorb it and the floods began to build)

flash flood - short term flooding caused by heavy rainfall in a short time period (usually 6 hours or less) or a dam failure
