Note Taking Chart

Prepare color coded note taking sheets as directed below.

Print a copy of the chart below. Note the chart will print out white.
Gather colored copier paper in blue, green, pink, yellow, orange, tan, gray, and white.
Cut out the first row of the chart and glue it as a header on a piece of copier paper.
Make one copy for each cooperative learning group in your class using blue paper.
Repeat procedure #3 with each row of the chart.
Make copies using a different color paper for each category.

Blue	Introduction	Name of Tribe (what tribe name means) OR List Names of Tribes that lived in this Region Geographical Location - could include present day state names or describe area using natural landmarks Geographical Description of this Region Climate of this Region Background information such as where this tribe originated
Green	Homes	Description of Home including materials used in building this home size of home how the Indians built this home / amount of time it took for the Indians to build a home number of people living in a typical home furnishings Description of Village
Pink	Dress	Description of Men's, Women's, and Children's Clothing Include Material Styles Decorations Shoes
Yellow	Food	Were members of this tribe hunters? (List animals.) farmers? (List foods.) gatherers? (List foods.) Describe weapons used to hunt. Describe utensils used in preparing food. Describe storage containers. How was the food prepared? How did the Indians preserve their food?
Orange	Customs and Entertainment	Festivals and Ceremonies When celebrated? Why celebrated? How celebrated? Rituals When? Why? How? Games rules describe equipment required Was this game played at during a festival? Which festival?
Tan	Tools / Weapons	What tools were used? How were these tools made? Describe the use of each tool. Include transportation tools/vehicles. What weapons did this group use? How were these weapons made?
Gray	Art	Describe artwork What materials were used? Was the artwork used for a special purpose? What symbols were on the art work? What did these symbols mean? Music instruments Describe how these instruments were made. How were these instruments played? chants Did this group use special chants at special times or during different ceremonies? Describe these.
White (optional)	Famous People from this Group	Write a brief description of the accomplishments of this famous person. Include What did this person do? How did this person influence his/her people?
