Johnson County Families

     One family that lived in Johnson County at this time was the Wagners. Two brothers, David and Mathias Wagner, settled on the Roan Creek near Shouns. By 1850 they had seventy-five descendants living in Johnson County. Learn more about the Wagners.
 

     Roderick Random Butler came to Johnson County as a tailor's apprentice. He later became a Congressman. Learn more about Butler.


     By 1858 the population of Smith’s Mill had grown to 155 families. The Coffey brothers moved from Boone, North Carolina and built a mercantile business in the area. The area was growing and the mercantile business became most successful.
