In Johnson County fishermen will find five major streams with approximately 230 stream miles to try their luck. Roan, Doe, Beaverdam, Laurel, and Forge Creeks are stocked by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency between March and June. Hunters will find wild boar, deer, squirrel, grouse, and turkey throughout the county. Camping and picnicking are enjoyed in the national forest as well as by Watauga Lake. Watauga Lake also provides opportunities for boating, swimming, and fishing. Canoeing, tubing, and rafting are enjoyed on Watauga River which feeds Watauga Lake.
