Mountain City, the county seat, is
located in the center of Johnson County. You may reach Mountain City by taking Highway 421
from Boone, North Carolina; Highway 91 from Damacus, Virginia; or Highway 67 from
Elizabethton, Tennessee.
Johnson County is located on the Eastern Continental Divide
in the extreme northeastern corner of Tennessee. It is shaped like an ancient arrowhead
pointing in a northeastern direction. Virginia is to the north and North Carolina is to
the east of Johnson County.
Mountain City Elementary has approximately
418 students from Pre-K/Head Start through sixth grade.
A staff of 31 teachers educate students with an
average teacher student ratio of 1 to 18.
