| Apples for Students Program
We have been participating in the Apples for Students Program. Thank you for sending in your register tapes from FOOD CITY. We currently have received tapes for over $21,000.The last day to collect tapes was March 11, 2006. A special "Thank You" to Kimberly Toler for coordinating this school wide project. BUG Field Trip Twenty-nine students received a field trip as a reward for making good grades. Students that maintained straight A’s or brought up their grades in at least three different subjects were eligible to take the trip. They visited Hands on Museum and lunched at the Olive Garden restaurant. PTO Meeting The next PTO meeting will be March 21, 2006, at 6:30. Kindergarten and first grade classes will perform. The students will be directed by our wonderful music teacher, Mrs. Amy Woodall. Please plan to attend this enjoyable program. Boys To Men/Girlfriends Boys To Men/Girlfriends is a new after school program which will begin on Tuesday, March 21, 2006. Meetings will be held each Tuesday after school till 4:30. This program is geared toward youth development with emphasis on character building, educational development and self-esteem enhancing opportunities for 4th and 5th grade students. A representative will be present to discuss the program at the March 21st PTO meeting. |
Americorps Service – Learning Projects
Mr. Kelly’s 6th grade class – Project Student Teach: The students will be peer tutoring a first grade class on math facts. The sixth graders are preparing math flash cards to use with their first grade partner. Mr. Henley’s 6th grade class – The Power of Five activity: This activity is designed around the five promises of America’s Promise.The five promises are caring adults, safe place, healthy start, marketable skills, and service. These students will be helping Safe Haven. Mrs. Curd’s 6th grade class – Child Abuse Awareness Campaign: The students will be designing a web link to the school’s website. They will also use a large milk carton to make a display and complete a service activity in April for Child Abuse Awareness Month.
Miss Tennessee Miss Tennessee will visit our school on Friday, March 24, 2006. She will greet students in the gym at 2:00 p.m. Reminder Kindergarten, Head Start, and PreK registration will be Thursday, March 23rd. Students whose last names begin with A-L are to register from 8:30 to 10:30. Students whose last names begin with M-Z are to register from 1:00 to 3:00. |
