Activities for Lesson 2

Worm Computer Drawing
Billy eats 15 worms throughout this book. Assign each student a worm: worm #1, worm #2, . . . , worm #15. After reading each chapter in which Billy eats a worm have the student that has been assigned that particular worm to make a computer drawing using Kid Pix, Paint, or other drawing program. The drawing should have the worm along with the other foods that Billy used to be able to eat the worm in that chapter you just read.
For example: Billy eats his first worm in Chapter IV. On worm #1 Billy ate the first two bites of the worm with ketchup, mustard, horseradish, a few drops of lemon, and salt and pepper. He then sprinkled the rest of the worm with cinnamon and sugar or a bit of cheese, some cracker crumbs or Worcestershire sauce.
Put the finished drawings together to form a class book. See our book.
Journal Writing
Billy had accepted several dares. One time he had even slept all night long in an igloo the boys had built in their backyard. In chapter V you will read about another dare Billy took the summer before. When it was ninety-five degrees in the shade Billy put on all his winter clothes and his father's raccoon coat and his ski boots and walked up and down Main Street all afternoon. Why do you think people like to dare Billy to do things? Why do you think Billy accepts their dares?
