King Midas and the Golden Touch

One day Dionysus, the god of wine, got drunk and wandered off. The peasants found him and took him to King Midas. King Midas could have said off with his head, but instead he let Dionysus go free.

Dionysus and King Midas became friends. Dionysus gave King Midas a wish for setting him free. King Midas wished for the golden touch. After a while he hated the golden touch, especially when his daughter turned to gold. He asked Dionysus to take the wish away.

Dionysus could not take it away. He said to go to the river Pactolus and bathe. When King Midas did this the power of the golden touch went into the river.

This power caused the grains of wheat and the sand along the river to turn a golden color.
