The Trial of Muff Potter A big surprise occurred in Muff Potter's trial yesterday. Young Tom Sawyer took the witness stand. Tension filled the courtroom as Tom told Judge Thatcher that he was in the graveyard the night of the murder. Tom told the judge that he saw Dr. Robinson knock Injun Joe to the ground. He continued by saying Muff Potter got in the middle of the fight between Dr. Robinson and Injun Joe. He was knocked out cold in the scuffle. Tom had just begun saying that Injun Joe took Muff Potter's knife when his testimony was interrupted by Injun Joe jumping through the window and running away. If you know the location of Injun Joe please contact the sheriff at the St. Petersburg Jail. |

Children Lost in Cave Judge Thatcher's return celebration picnic turned into a scary adventure for two youngsters. Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher were wandering along in the cave. They were separated from the group and could not find their way out. They had used their last candle when Tom had a thought. He used a ball of string he had in his pocket. Tom tied one end to a rock, then he and Becky eased the string out as they made their way in the dark. After the string ran out they followed the string back to the rock where they had anchored the rope and started all over again, It was not until the next day that Tom saw light coming through the cave wall, He made his way to the small hole and pushed his way through. The youngsters had wandered five miles from the mouth of the cave. |
