Daniel Boone Daniel Boone was born November 2, 1734 in a log cabin in Reading Pennsylvania. His parents were Quakers. They lived on a small farm where his family ran a blacksmith shop and were weavers. Boone rarely attended school. He worked on the farm and spent his time hunting. When Boone was 12 years old his father gave him his first rifle. In 1750 Boone's family moved to North Carolina. Boone left home at age 19 to join the military during the French and Indian War. He returned home and began courting Rebecca Bryan. They were married in 1755. |

Boone spent much of his time traveling and exploring the wilderness. He traveled the Blue Ridge during the 1760's. In 1765 he went as far south as Pensacola, Florida. Boone made several trips back and forth over the Appalachian Mountains through the Cumberland Gap to Kentucky. In 1775 he settled near Lexington, Kentucky building Fort Boonesborough. This was the site of several conflicts with the Shawnees. Boone was captured twice by the Shawnee and during his second capture was held five months before escaping.
