Summary

In The Field Guide Jared, his twin brother Simon, sister Mallory, and Mom move to Aunt Lucinda's house in the country. First thinking they have a squirrel trapped in the walls of the house, the children poke a hole in the wall trying to catch the creature. Instead they discover a dumbwaiter which leads to an attic library. The library is filled with interesting objects including a chest with a hidden compartment. In the compartment Jared finds Authur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You. From information in the field guide Jared discovers the creature living in the house is not a squirrel but a house brownie. The brownie turns into a boggart who when angry stirs up all kinds of trouble for the children.
