When an Accident Occurs Burn If someone gets burned run cool water over the burnt area for 5 to 10 minutes. If the burnt area is blistered or charred see a doctor If Your Clothes Catch Fire
If Your House Catches Fire Get out of your house immediately. If your family is at home go to the designated meeting place. Then go to a neighbor's house to call the fire department. Don't go back inside. If someone is trapped tell the firefighters when they come. If you are trapped stuff blankets or towels around the cracks in the doors and cover the vents to keep smoke out. Wait at an opened window and signal for help with a flashlight or a bright colored piece of cloth. If there is a telephone in your room call the fire department and tell them exactly where you are. Remember if the door feels hot do not open it. After the firefighters say that it is safe to return to your home you should make an inventory of anything that is damaged before throwing it away for the insurance company. Throw away any food that was heated by the fire or came in contact with smoke.
