     During the storm you should do the following:

  • Listen to a radio or television to get updated information.

  • Stay inside away from windows, skylights, and glass doors.

  • If driving in the storm drive perpendicular to its path and try to outrun it.

  • Avoid open flames such as candles and kerosene lamps.

  • If you lose power turn off major appliances

  • Secure your home by turning off electricity, unplugging appliances, and turning off water supply.

  • Tell someone away from the storm where you are going.

  • Bring your emergency supplies.

  • Also take blankets and sleeping bags to shelters.

  • Lock up and leaves as soon as possible.

     After the storm:

  • Give first aid as needed.

  • Avoid downed power lines.

  • Enter your home carefully.

  • Check refrigeration for spoiled foods.

  • Take pictures of damage for you insurance claims.

  • Drive only when absolutely necessary.

  • Use telephones only for emergency calls.
