     According to the National Park Service Annual Search and Rescue Report 6338 search and rescue incidents occurred in the National Forest in 1998. One hundred and thirty-eight of these incidents were fatal. Another 4595 involved injuries. These rescue missions involved a total of 82240.1 man hours costing $1,792,363. An additional 1389.25 of air and helicopter hours were used at a cost of $1,952,149.
